– I watch James Van Der Beek on “Dawson’s Creek” all the time, and I liked his movie “Varsity Blues.” Does he have any other films coming out?
The young actor appears with Dylan McDermott (“The Practice”) and Ashton Kutcher (“That ’70s Show,” “Dude, Where’s My Car?”) in the western “Texas Rangers,” which is due in theaters this spring. He also has one of the leading roles in a yet-untitled drama about peer pressure among youths, written and directed by Todd Solondz (“Welcome to the Dollhouse,” “Happiness”). That film didn’t have even a ballpark release date at press time.
– I’ve heard that Glenn Close is doing a television remake of “South Pacific.” Any idea when it will be on?
ABC intends to air the latest version of the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical during the forthcoming May “sweeps,” with Close playing Nellie Forbush, the World War II nurse who’s “Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair.” Rade Serbedzija — of such movies as “The Saint,” “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Mission: Impossible 2” — is her leading man, and Harry Connick Jr. is also in the cast.
