THE 2001 PUSHCART PRIZE XXV: Best of the Small Presses
Edited by Bill Henderson, with the Pushcart Prize editors
Pushcart Press, 621 pages, $29.50
I harbor the irrational hope of catching up on my reading, particularly of literary journals, which is one reason I relish the annual Pushcart anthology. This 25th anniversary version is a particular treat, with 74 works of fiction and poetry from 54 small presses. Still, catching up may be an illusion. Some pieces in this collection, like Sherod Santos’ “Elegy for My Sister,” pack such an emotionally powerful punch that I must go for a walk.
