Sr. Lucilda, Johanna May, died peacefully in Maria Hall at 5:40 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2001 at the Convent of the Holy Spirit, Techny, IL. Sister Lucilda was in the 91st year of her life and the 65th year of her Religious Profession as a Holy Spirit Missionary Sister. Sister Lucilda was born in Alsace, Lorraine and later moved to Germany. After completing her elementary education, she worked in an orphanage for several years before joining the Holy Spirit Missionary Sisters at the Motherhouse in Steyl, Holland. Shortly after her first Religious Profession on Dec. 8, 1936, she traveled to the United States. After several years of further studies in Techny, IL, Sister Lucilda began to serve as an accountant and later as a business manager in hospitals and nursing homes in Illinois, Maryland and Iowa. In recent years Sister Lucilda has lived in retirement in Maria Hall at the Convent of the Holy Spirit where she completed her life’s journey on Friday, January 19. Sister Lucilda is survived by her sister, Maria Eiden; and nieces and nephews who live in Germany. Visitation and Wake Service will be at the Convent of the Holy Spirit, Techny on Tuesday, January 23, at 9 a.m. Followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. Interment will then take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Techny, IL.
