John H. Moorman, 87, a 25-year employee of Alcoa who retired and became a consultant for die cast companies, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, of complications from cancer in Hinsdale Hospital. Mr. Moorman majored in metallurgy at the University of Kentucky. His degree landed him a job with Alcoa in New Jersey. Around 1957 Mr. Moorman moved to the Chicago area, where he worked in the die casting division, where aluminum was cast for use as tools or machinery. He and his wife, Geneva, settled in Western Springs. In the early 1970s, Mr. Moorman became a consultant, helping other companies troubleshoot their die casting process. Mr. Moorman was active with the First Baptist Church in La Grange, his family said, frequently helping with services and other church matters. Mr. Moorman was a longtime weekend gardener, and about 20 years ago he joined the Men’s Garden Club of America. Survivors include a son, David, and a granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. March 3 at First Baptist Church of La Grange, 21 N. Catherine Ave., La Grange.
