Eugene Issel, 68, a 41-year resident of Carpentersville, retired in 1977 as an assembly worker for U.S. Can Co. of Elgin after 20 years of service. Mr. Issel, a Chicago native, died Sunday, Jan. 21, in Sherman Hospital in Elgin. Mr. Issel served in the Army in Korea during the Korean War. “With a limited education, he was able to provide a good home for his four kids,” said his son, Robert. “We never wanted for anything. He was a good father.” Other survivors include his wife of more than 43 years, Elvera; three daughters, Barbara Poppen, Teresa Angsten and Maria; a brother, Harold; and three grandchildren. A service will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Laird Funeral Home, 120 S. 3rd St., Elgin.
