Leo A. Rodell, 82, of Arlington Heights, a retired insurance executive, died Monday, Jan. 22, in his home. Born and raised in Chicago, Mr. Rodell obtained a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago before serving four years in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He was based in England and was part of a B-24 bomber crew that flew missions over Germany. Following his military service, Mr. Rodell returned to Chicago, completed a master’s degree from Loyola and began working in the insurance industry in the late 1940s. Mr. Rodell specialized in construction insurance. He worked in sales for several Chicago insurance companies, including McManus & Pelouchoud Inc. He ended his career as a sales executive at Willis Corp. of Chicago. After retiring in 1992, Mr. Rodell volunteered at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, where he drove residents to appointments. He also assisted in the English-as-a-second-language program at Arlington Heights Memorial Library. “He was a very giving person,” said his son Michael. Other survivors include three sons, Thomas, Jeremiah and Paul; a brother, Rev. Jeremiah; a sister, Mary; and eight grandchildren. A visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said at 8:45 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. A mass will follow at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 432 W. Park St., Arlington Heights.
