Genevieve Victoria Smoczynski, 75, of Somonauk, IL, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Chicago, Dec. 3, 1925, where she lived until the summer of 1970, when her family moved to Lake Holiday. She was the daughter of Dominic and Rose (Pazdro) Kaminski. As a child, Jean belonged to St. Pancratius Church and later in her adult life, St. Andrews Parish. Jean worked for Motorola while in Chicago, and once relocated, worked for CTS Knights from which she retired in 1985. Jean spent her retirement enjoying a large vegetable garden, bowling, and volunteering for the Fox Valley Older Adult Service and Meals on Wheels. She also enjoyed spending winters with her husband and friends in Arizona. Her greatest love was being involved in grandchildren’s lives as she spend much of her time attending their activities. Her faith and family were of her most important values. Jean is survived by her husband of 55 years, Frank Smoczynski; her four children, Frank (Cherie) Smoczynski Jr. of Lisle, Sandy (Tom) Moomey of Lake Holiday, Mike (Mary) Smoczynski of Aurora, and Mary (Kurt) Roley of North Aurora; and very special friend, Jim White of Mission Viejo, CA; her 11 grandchildren, Jeff and Jacki Smoczynski, Jennifer Moomey and Robin (Rick) Moomey Beattie, Angie (Dave Balensiefen), Michael and Cara Smoczynski, and Nikki, Katie, Peter and Stephanie Roley. She is also survived by two sisters, Lottie Forest and Mary Grezlak; and two brothers, Ed Kaminski and Ted Kaminski; and many nieces and nephews that she cared for very much. Jean is preceded in death by her son, Thomas Smoczynski; her parents, Dominic and Rose Kaminski; and her sister Caroline Smoczynski. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2001 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk with Fr. Donald DeSalvo officating. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 26th at the Turner Funeral Home in Somonauk, with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m.
