Henry E. Sobotka Sr., 83, of Mt. Prospect, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Oakton Pavillion, a nursing home in Des Plaines. Born and raised in Chicago, Mr. Sobotka served more than two years in the U.S. Army as a cook in Germany during World War II. After his military service, Mr. Sobotka returned to Chicago and began working at Stewart Warner, a manufacturer of speedometers and gauges in Chicago. Mr. Sobotka worked as a die setter for 33 years before retiring in 1982. He is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Lahl, Nancy Lahl and Katherine Zoellick; a son, Henry E. Jr.; three brothers, Aloysius, Florian and Chester; two sisters, Helen Cherney and Theresa Tucci; and eight grandchildren. Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Friday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Zachary Catholic Church, 567 W. Algonquin Rd., Des Plaines.
