Herbert L. Rigdon, 83, of Carol Stream, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, in Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. A Carol Stream resident since 1960, Mr. Rigdon was a Navy veteran of World War II and a lifelong Cubs and Bears fan. For several years, he traveled to Arizona to attend the Cubs’ spring training. “He stuck with them through good times and bad,” said his wife of 56 years, Jane. “He played football and baseball when he was in school and loved the team participation.” Prior to his retirement in 1979, he was a steelworker for more than 30 years, first with Harrison Sheet Steel in Cicero and later with Kedvale Steel Processing in Chicago. After his retirement, Mr. Rigdon enjoyed woodworking, cooking, candy making and keeping company with his grandchildren and cats. “He was a wonderfully kind man, who everybody really misses,” said his wife. Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Mike; two daughters Lori DeMarke and Kathy; a brother, Robert; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until services at 1 p.m. Saturday at Brust Funeral Home, 415 N. Gary Ave., Carol Stream.
