The Michigan Court of Appeals has upheld the murder, robbery and sexual assault convictions of Terrance Reyes, one of the six Flint men involved in a 1997 attack on three Oakland County teens.

Michael Carter, his girlfriend and another friend hopped a train in Oakland County’s Highland Township and meant to get off in Holly. But they accidentally rode the train another 15 miles north to Flint.

In Flint, the teens asked Reyes and his friends to show them a phone. Instead, the men led them to a park, where they robbed and beat the teens. Carter was shot and killed in the attack; his girlfriend was robbed and raped.

Reyes was convicted on 12 charges and is serving a life sentence. He appealed, saying there wasn’t enough evidence to convict him of four of the charges: murder, assault with intent to murder, armed robbery and criminal sexual conduct.
