I read the letters to the editor daily because I feel that they are the most important feature of the editorial page. They reflect the real-life, sometimes extreme, opinions of the readers. The requirement of the paper that readers identify themselves has always seemed to be a reasonable one. But why should that not be a requirement for the Tribune editorial board? Why not provide a signature for the editorials that provide the official opinion of the paper? Surely these editorials do not appear from thin air. There must be some human hand, or mind, behind them. Why not tear away the veil of secrecy and let us know their identity?
