Jurors completed their first full day of deliberations Wednesday without reaching a verdict in the murder case against Jonathan Tolliver, 18, in the 1998 shooting death of Chicago Police Officer Michael Ceriale.
Wednesday evening, the Cook County jury asked for transcripts of the testimony of five prosecution witnesses who implicated Tolliver in the killing in testimony before a grand jury two years ago but have since recanted.
The witnesses testified that they had lied to the grand jury under pressure from police investigators.
The jurors also requested transcripts of the testimony by one witness’ mother and her boyfriend. Both testified that they were at the Wentworth Area police station when the witness, Calvin Brown, a minor, gave a statement to police implicating Tolliver.
After consulting with lawyers on both sides, Judge Dennis Porter sent the jurors a note indicating that the transcripts would be ready on Thursday morning.
Jurors began deliberations late Tuesday.
