John S. Sandrik, 83, of Hoffman Estates, a photographer, woodworker and a retired plant superintendent, died Sunday, Jan. 28, in his home. Mr. Sandrik graduated from Lane Tech High School in Chicago and worked as a glassblower for General Electric’s X-Ray Corp., making X-ray tubes in Chicago during World War II. After the war, Mr. Sandrik worked as a carpenter for Signode Corp. in Chicago and then later in Glenview, where the company manufactured steel fasteners. Mr. Sandrik retired in 1981 as Signode’s plant superintendent in Glenview. Mr. Sandrik was an accomplished woodworker who crafted trucks and cars for children. He also was a self-taught photographer and an award-winning member of the Chicago Area Color Camera Association. “He was a very gregarious and intense person,” said his son, James. Other survivors include two grandchildren. Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Thursday in Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Hubert Catholic Church, 729 Grand Canyon St., Hoffman Estates.
