Mae Kolb, 69, an Elgin homemaker, died Sunday, Jan. 28, in her home. “She was a caregiver,” said her daughter Pam Ledbetter. “She cared for my sister [the late Susan Evans] who died of AIDS 10 years ago, and for her sister [the late Helen Southwell] who died of MS. She took care of both of her parents [the late Paul and Lillian Schoon] at the end as well. She took care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was grandmother baby-sitter to the end.” Other survivors include another daughter, Sharon; a son, Michael; two sisters, Judith La Galanteand Kathy Kowal; a brother, John Schoon; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. A service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
