Minnie Viscomi, 79, of Addison, a 50-year employee of U.S. Shoe Repair in Chicago, whose smile was recognized wherever she went in the Loop, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, in Elmbrook Health Center in Elmhurst. “Everybody loved my mother,” her daughter Donna said. A woman of quick wit, Mrs. Viscomi was as comfortable with the average person as she was with the big names who came in to have their shoes repaired. Born in Chicago, she also was not averse to waging a few dollars when the opportunity presented itself. “She loved to gamble, loved the boats and Vegas,” her daughter said. Mrs. Viscomi is remembered for her Italian cooking, a talent that brought the family together for weekend meals. “She was a dynamo, always moving and working, and in her house you were always asked to sit down and have something to eat,” her daughter said. “Family was everything to her.” Survivors also include two other daughters, Adeline Conti and Lucille Cicero; two sons, Joseph and Robert; two brothers, Donato and Robert Vitiello; and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in Humes Funeral Home, 320 W. Lake St., Addison. Services will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, followed by mass at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 330 E. Fullerton Ave., Addison.
