Richard Skoog, 65, of Marlboro, Mass., a former longtime resident of Mt. Prospect, died of congestive heart failure Sunday, Jan. 28, in Marlboro. Mr. Skoog was raised in a southern suburb of Boston and after high school, served from 1950 to 1954 in the Army. He obtained a bachelor of science degree from Iowa State University in 1958 and settled in the Chicago area. He spent his career working in the insurance industry for 22 years. He worked as a district claims manager for State Farm Insurance in Schaumburg. A resident of Mt. Prospect since 1965, Mr. Skoog coached Little League baseball for 25 years and dedicated another 15 years volunteering as a coach for the Mt. Prospect Midget Football Association. Mr. Skoog retired in 1998 and moved to Marlboro two months ago. “He was very involved in his community,” said his son Matthew, who added that his father was involved in planning neighborhood block parties and also taught Sunday school at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mt. Prospect. Other survivors include another son, Michael; two daughters, Linda Woehrl and Sharon; and six grandchildren. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mark Lutheran Church, 200 S. Wille St., Mt. Prospect.
