Joseph J. Slowiak, WW II Army Vet originally from 2145 S. Western. Dear brother of Tony (Marie), the late Alvin, the late Marilyn (the late Joseph) Maurer, the late Edward, the late Roman (Dorothy), the late Aloysius, the late John (Dolores) and Lorraine (Ronald) Kuczak; uncle of 16 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. He was the oldest son of a Polish immigrant taken out of school during the Depression to help support the family. During World War II he was an MP at Fort Sam, Houston, Texas. He never married and helped his family out all his life. He worked all his life until he was forced to retire. He was active in the 25th Ward Politics including being an Election Judge. Lifelong member of Knights of Columbus, LaFayette Council, #361 and Local 774 Retiree Chapter. His home for the last 5 years was Oak Brook Health Care Center where he served as resident Council President for 4 years. Friends and relatives will meet at St. Francis of Rome Church Saturday February 3rd for 11 a.m. Mass. Visitation Friday 3 to 9 p.m. at Sourek Manor Funeral Home, 5645 W. 35th St. Cicero.
