Passport to the World, a series of programs about Nigerian culture, will open with the Breaking of the Kola Nut because, traditionally, it is the only way to begin important gatherings. “If you don’t break the kola nut before an event, it can easily be said that the event did not take place,” says Igbo tribe member Michael Ukaigwe. During the series, various Nigerian groups will teach games, do hair braiding and even present a performance by a being believed to be a spirit who can settle conflicts. Passport to the World runs through Feb. 22 at Chicago Children’s Museum. 312-527-1000.
