Dena Winick, 71, wife of Burton Winick; mother of Martin (Lucy) Fisher and Rachel Winick; stepmother of Russel (Vicki) and Brad (Janet) Winick; grandmother “bubbe” to Max, Marques, Jayson and Raine; aunt to Daniel and Hamilton Cheifetz and Davina Gibbs; great-aunt to many; and good friend to so many; she was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Miriam Cheifetz; and her brother I. David (Laurie) Cheifetz. She worked as a Guidance Counselor at Evanston Township High School for 20 years, retiring in 1989. Following her retirement from E.T.H.S., she taught Lamaze child birth techniques to hundreds of expectant parents. She was a lifelong activist with numerous social justice and peace-related causes. Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 4, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Winnetka Women’s Club, 485 Maple Street, Winnetka (recorded travel directions are available at 847-446-1830). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dena Winick Peace Action Award, an annual award given to E.T.H.S.
