`Guiding Light” celebrated its 64th broadcast anniversary on Jan. 25, becoming the longest-running program of any kind. “GL” debuted as a 15-minute radio serial in 1937, then was launched on television in 1952. For four years, the show was simultaneously broadcast on radio and TV.

– David Beecroft has left the cast of “All My Children.” He began playing the role of Eliot last year, but viewers never took to the pairing of Brooke and Eliot. Eliot was actually the man who killed Brooke’s daughter in a drunk-driving accident many years earlier. Meanwhile, Laura Allen has signed a new agreement to remain on “AMC” as Laura, who seems headed for romance with Leo.

– Ed Fry, who has appeared on “As the World Turns” and “Another World,” is playing the recurring role of Bud on “AMC.” And Finola Hughes, whose character, Alex, has been causing much concern for her loved ones, returns to the nighttime series “Charmed” this month as the Haliwell sisters’ mother.

– In “Port Charles,” Jamal may be tempted back to a life of crime, much to girlfriend Alison’s dismay, when the character of Travis turns up starting next Tuesday. Tim Griffin will be playing the role.
