Not to belittle the horror of slavery in this country, but our government needs to keep its promises to the first people of this continent. The Native American people lost their land through force and genocide, and were given promises of payment in the form of written treaties. Most tribes are still waiting for these treaties, these legal documents, to be honored.
We are supposed to be a government of trust and integrity. Let the government show that it can keep its promises to the people who were forced to give up their land and heritage for promises that were never honored.
