Raymond Grashoff, a retired school principal with the Chicago Public Schools and prior to that a supervisor of vocational education, died Feb. 1, 2001. Mr. Grashoff received his Master’s Degree from Northwestern University. He served his country during World War II as a Lt. Commander in the United States Navy and retired from the United States Navy Reserves after 20 years, while living in Deerfield, IL. He and his wife, Arlene, retired to Manasota Key, Sarasota County, Florida, where they lived for 25 years before moving to Palm Harbor, FL. As an avid reader, he served on the Board of the Elsie Quirk Library and volunteered re-binding thousands of books for the public library system. Mr. Grashoff was a worldwide traveler and a boating enthusiast, serving as a volunteer with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary. Raymond Grashoff is survived by his wife, Arlene; daughter, Holly (Hugh) Manning; grandchildren, Raymond, Kimberly, Daniel and Elizabeth. A private family memorial service was held.
