It was very nice to read about the rebirth of public libraries.
It’s also very nice to have a local library in the neighborhood, where the community can easily access the great variety of services.
But even though the money is being spent on the buildings and the computers, the money is not being spent to pay librarians decent salaries.
These skilled professionals are often very adept at dealing with a variety of people and a variety of questions.
And they are taken for granted.
The real story is how so many library boards think it’s OK to pay these people so poorly.
