Vilma Kohnke, 76, a 43-year resident of Elk Grove Village, was a homemaker and charter member of Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, founded in 1958. Mrs. Kohnke, a Chicago native, died Sunday, Feb. 4, in her home. For nearly 10 years, Mrs. Kohnke was a volunteer surgical waiting room attendant in Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. She volunteered at an Public Action to Deliver Shelter soup kitchen. Mrs. Kohnke also served on the board of the Village on the Lake Condominium Association in Elk Grove Village for the last decade. “She was very outgoing, active and possessed a wonderful sense of humor,” said her son Gary. “She was loving, supportive and gave of herself freely to family and friends. She was especially proud of and devoted to her grandchildren.” Survivors include two more sons, Rudi and Eric; two brothers, Edward and Walter Hahn; a sister, Anna Federlin; and four grandchildren. A visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, when a service will begin in Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Elk Grove Boulevard and Lions Drive, Elk Grove Village.
