Walter R. Applegate, 86, a retired division manager for Bastian Blessing Co. of Grand Haven, Mich., died Friday, Feb. 2, in his Naperville home. Mr. Applegate was born in Chicago. He had lived in Naperville since 1995. Mr. Applegate’s career with the food-service equipment manufacturer included stints as a draftsman, production manager and assistant plant manager; he later was transferred to New York, where he was an account manager and then a division manager for the firm. He retired in 1972 and moved to Chatham, Mass. During his residence in that Cape Cod community, he was president of the Rotary Club. Mr. Applegate served in the Navy in World War II. Survivors include a son, Gary; a daughter, Lee Anne Applegate-Perez; and a granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1310 Shepherd Rd., Naperville.
