The unceasing discussion about President Bill Clinton’s so-called “abuse of power” during the final days of his presidency by the media and by the Clinton-haters in Washington demonstrates not only the continued infatuation of the media with him but also the unbounded personal hatred of some Republican lawmakers.
It is notable that unlike President George W. Bush or Vice President Dick Cheney, who made millions of dollars in private industry, Clinton spent his entire adult life in public service drawing meager salaries. It also should be noted that Clinton, unlike his Republican predecessors, has vowed to be active in public service.
As a busy ex-president, Clinton deserves decent office space.
And so what if he accepts gifts from his long-time friends, for whom he cannot possibly offer any favors in return as an ex-president?
This nation owes President Bill Clinton a lot more than what he is entitled to receive in retirement benefits for his outstanding contributions in leading a prosperous nation and a peaceful world into the 21st Century.
