Eugene P. Kutz, 85, of Mt. Prospect, retired in 1980 after 40 years as an armature winder for Inland Electric Co., repairers of electric motors in Chicago. Mr. Kutz, a Chicago native, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Mr. Kutz graduated from Schurz High School, Chicago, in the early 1930s and then the former Coyne Electrical School, Chicago. “After high school he worked at Walgreens and then in the kitchen at Pixley & Ehlers restaurant [in Chicago],” said his daughter Virginia Neugebauer. “His good friend Joe [an electrician] said: `You don’t want to flip hamburgers all your life. Go to electrical school.’ He repaired motors for trains and for Buckingham Fountain,” his daughter said. “His hobby was carpentry. He built furniture: desks, tables, coat-racks, television stands. They are so durable. Anything that needed to be fixed he’d fix it for friends and family. He was still driving. He passed his driver’s test in October. He had belonged to St. Francis of Assisi Church [in Chicago] for 54 years. He was active in the Holy Name Society. The nuns there would call him and ask him to drive them all over the city.” Mr. Kutz was formerly a 30-year resident of Norridge. Other survivors include another daughter, Lorraine Metz; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Rd., Mt. Prospect. Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home, followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Raymond de Penafort Catholic Church, Elmhurst Road and Lincoln Street, Mt. Prospect.
