The spectacle of uniformed Chicago Police officers packing a courtroom is a chilling example of what looks like official intimidation of the judicial process (“Ceriale case takes strange twist, Verdict rumor brings cops to court,” Metro, Feb. 5).
Apart from the merits of the Ceriale case, the jury has a right to free and uninfluenced deliberations. We do not pay our police to take sides and pack courtrooms, frightening jury members to the point of tears. This blatant exercise of power should bring an immediate appeal.
