Jack Alan Sigan, 45, of Hoffman Estates, a consulting engineer for Rocky Mountain Salvage and Equipment in Durango, Colo., died Saturday, Feb. 3, in the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., of a ruptured colon. Mr. Sigan obtained a bachelor’s of science degree in chemical engineering in 1978 from Ohio State University in Columbus. Mr. Sigan worked as a technical engineer for Universal Oil Products in Des Plaines and spent the next few years setting up oil refineries around the world. He moved to Hoffman Estates in 1984 and continued working as a specialist in the sale of catalysts for the oil refinery industry. For the last five years, Mr. Sigan worked from his home and served as a consulting engineer for Rocky Mountain Salvage and was responsible for the shipping and transportation of used catalysts. “He was down to earth,” said his wife of 22 years, Sally, who added that her husband was a “big fan of nature” who enjoyed travel and hiking. Other survivors include a son, Jake; two daughters, Stevie and Gwen; his parents, Jack and Erna; and two sisters, Bette Hartley and Leslie Richey. A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday in Southminster Presbyterian Church, 916 E. Central Rd., Arlington Heights. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. in the church.
