Richard J. Belmont, 62, of Long Grove, died February 8, in Honolulu, HI. Dick spent his final days in the place he loved most. Having his family by his side, he never passed up a moment to look out over the Pacific Ocean, particularly to watch the beautiful Maui sunsets. In 1960, after graduating from the University of Notre Dame, he married Molly, his beautiful wife, and together they raised three children: two daughters and one son. Aside loving his family, there were two things in life he loved to do, and that was to fly and play golf. Dick served his country flying two tours in Vietnam and retiring as a Navy Lt. Commander. Dick also retired as a Captain with American Airlines, after serving 32 commendable years. Retired life brought him closer to friends and family and, of course, golf. As competitive as he was on the golf course, he never went a round without enjoying the beautiful scenery golf courses had to offer. Above all, Dick was a loving, generous man who especially loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He will be remembered most for his tremendous faith and affection for his church, his friends ad especially his family. His unyielding devotion to God and his family touched the heart and soul of everyone who knew him. Dick was a cancer survivor for more than 10 years. Heroic in his own right, he spent those years counseling and giving hope to others that face the same awful disease. Dick, we have been blessed to have you in our lives, “we love you and we’ll miss you terribly.” His spirit lives in the hearts of many, his beloved wife of 40 years, Mary E. Belmont, nee Sutton; his children, Dave and Kathleen Kaminski, nee Belmont, Michael and Sital Belmont, Suzanne Belmont and fiance John Finucane; his grandchildren, Zachary and Ethan Kaminski; his parents, Elizabeth Belmont and the late John Belmont; his sister Joan Butzen, nee Belmont; sister-in-law Nanette Sutton and brother-in-law Tom Sutton and many cherished others.
