The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recently issued a new rule bringing increased safety to ironworkers.

The rule, which officially takes effect July 17, specifically addresses the hazards of steel erection and is expected to prevent 30 fatalities and 1,142 injuries annually, saving employers $40 million a year. OSHA issued the protective standard under the Negotiated Rulemaking Act of 1990 and in collaboration with several construction, steelworker, engineering and contractor associations.
