The direct quotes attributed to me in the Feb. 8 INC. column are completely false and fabricated. It is correct that I told school board members that it is not my intention to run for governor. I never, however, called in my top aides and declared that they want my job and would never replace me.
The authors of this column failed to contact me to confirm the facts and quotes. I know that it is fair journalism practice for the subjects of these items to be contacted and given the opportunity to verify the facts and quotes that are directly attributed to them. I regret that I wasn’t afforded that opportunity.
