Alice Dowd, 93, a longtime resident of Beverly, died Thursday, Feb. 8, in her home. Mrs. Dowd, who was born in Mapleton, Minn., attended school in a one-room country schoolhouse in Minnesota, then went to Immaculata High School when her family moved to Chicago. Mrs. Dowd was a member of Christ the King Women’s Altar Guild and former member of the C.K. Ladies Golf League and the Women’s Bowling League. An avid gardener, she volunteered to water the flowers at the 91st Street Metra train station until last year, her daughter Pat Coffey said. On her 90th birthday, Mrs. Dowd was awarded a certificate for her efforts by Metra. Survivors also include a son, Edward; two other daughters, Marie Decker and Katy Ratcliff; a sister, Mary Dowd; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Mass will said at 10 a.m. Monday in Christ the King Church, 9235 S. Hamilton Ave.
