In his tax plan, George W. Bush plans to give more to those who have benefited the most from the hard work and ingenuity of all of us. I’m not talking about your basic millionaire; I am talking about the super wealthy who already hold in their hands half of all the wealth of the nation.
Bush’s scam is to claim that by extending a like-percentage-reduction in tax rates to all, he is treating everyone alike–even though the benefits of such a cut go overwhelmingly to the very wealthiest.
If he really wants to treat everyone alike, why not just divide the amount of money that he wants to return by the total number of taxpayers and then give the same dollar amount to each of us? Now that is an across-the-board cut that I can live with.
