Robert P. Oken, 81, of Schaumburg, retired in the 1960s as a warehouse foreman for Block Steel Corp., Skokie, after 34 years of service. Mr. Oken, a Chicago native, died Saturday, Feb. 10, in Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove Village. Mr. Oken served with a U.S. Army ordnance unit in Europe during World War II. “He was the best husband and father in the world,” said his wife, Lucille. “He was a great baseball player when he was young,” she said, adding Mr. Oken played with a semipro softball team in Chicago. Other survivors include a son, James, and a daughter, Janice Loper. Prayers will be said at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday in Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg, followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Marcelline Catholic Church, 820 S. Springinsguth Rd., Schaumburg.
