Phyllis Butler Staats, 79, of Carolina Meadows, NC, died Wednesday evening at the Carolina Meadows Health Center. A native of Pashall, ND, she was a member of the University Presbyterian Church. A retired nurse in the Northern Chicago area and was devoted to the care of orphans and children. She was always active in the ParentTeacher’s Assoc. and Womens Clubs. Coco, as she was known fondly by her family and friends, was an avid bridge player and was the top sales person in real estate in the Deerfield, IL area. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Staats III and a sister Vivian Roth; survived by daughter, Kathryn Hornbeak of Santa, Ana, CA; three sons, Henry Staats of Dunwoody, GA, Timothy Staats of North Ridge, CA and Dana Staats of Chapel Hill, NC; five sisters Violet Ledger, Ruth Wikel and Carol Sackman of Waukegan, IL, Yvonne Turkelson of Carol Stream, IL and Joanne Guy of Greensboro, NC; brother David Butler of Waukegan, IL; eight grandchildren. Memorial service 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17 at the First Presbyterian Church of Deerfield, IL. Memorials may be made to the University Presbyterian Church.
