Mary Isabelle Caestecker, age 92, daughter of Ivan A. McKenna and Isabel Mayer McKenna, was born in Chicago on June 23, 1908. She attended grammar school at St. Philip Neri on the South Side and St. Mary-of-the-Woods in Terre Haute, IN. After attending Barat College, she married Julien J. Caestecker of Chicago. She worked tirelessly for many Catholic educational and philanthropic organizations, especially for her beloved Society of the Sacred Heart and for Loyola University for which, in recent years, she established a Chair at the Stritch School of Medicine dedicated especially to the study of premature infants. She is survived by her son, Julien Jr.; her daughters, Cele Hall and Belle Star; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The public memorial service will be held on March 31 at 11 a.m. at her parish, St. Ita’s, at 5500 N. Broadway, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to Barat College, Loyola University or the charity of the donor’s choice would be gratefully received.
