As an avid auto racing fan, I was shocked, amazed and quite disappointed to learn that less than 10 percent of the NASCAR drivers are using the new HANS device, a safety feature designed to protect the neck and head during a collision (Tribune, Feb. 15).
Last season, when the untimely death of young stars Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin occurred, the drivers were complaining loudest about the lack of adequate safety measures. Maybe they need a smack to the head to make them come to their senses.
