Harold F. Schultz, 96, of Prospect Heights, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, in his home. The Chicago native retired in 1969 as staff supervisor for the north division of the former Illinois Bell Telephone Co., Chicago, after more than 46 years of service. “He used to climb the poles in the beginning,” said his daughter, Marge Walsh, describing how her father started with the company. “After he retired, he worked for the National Park Service in Yellowstone for 10 years.” Walsh said her father managed a general store for campers and enjoyed his life out West. “He was a great fisherman. He loved driving, seeing the scenery,” she said. “He and my mom went on a lot of vacations. They had been around the world twice. He once drove a car up to Alaska, on a vacation, to deliver it.” She said she and her sister, the late Carol Petersen, went with their parents to all the states except Alaska. “After my mom passed away, my father lived with me,” she said. “We went over to Europe several times. He was a very caring person. The grandkids and great-grandkids loved him, but he was a toughie. There was no monkey business with him.” Other survivors include five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, 2000 E. Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.
