The headline “Civilians at sub’s controls in crash” (Page 1, Feb. 14) could have been “Sub’s bathroom painted gray” and been just as relevant to the crash.

Do any facts fault the way the sub surfaced? If a Navy officer was at the controls, could he have moved the multi-ton sub at the last minute?

The problem was they did not see or hear the fishing boat. The U.S. Navy needs better training or leadership on that submarine. Reporting that civilians were at the controls as a lead story is more about selling newspapers than journalism.
