I don’t want to get into politics, but I truly believe Sammy Sosa will leave the Cubs. He’s the best offensive player in the game–statistics don’t lie–but I think the Cubs are trying to keep Ernie Banks as Mr. Cub. Banks was one of my heroes and always will be, but if Sammy signs a new contract, he will go on to outhomer Banks as a Cub, and I kind of wonder if this organization wants that.
Sammy will continue putting up terrifying stats for the next five years. So give the man his just due–the biggest contract in baseball. He deserves it.
