Mary Margaret Gronek, nee Carpenter, 78, of South Pasadena, FL, died of pneumonia, Thursday, February, 15, 2001, at Menorah Manor Nursing Home, St. Petersburg, FL, where she resided for 31/2 years following a stroke 41/2 years ago, survivors include husband of 35 years, Ben Gronek; sisters-in-law Rita Carpenter Whelan, of Des Plaines, IL and South Pasadena, FL, and Geri Carpenter, of South Pasadena; step-daughter, Dianne (Jim) Meltregerorn, of Park Ridge, IL; nieces, Kathleen (Gary) Alexander, of Jacksonville, FL, and Marjorie (Ken) Hayden; and grandchildren Kristen, Lindsay and Mary Kate, Niles, IL; nephews Daniel Carpenter, Apache Junction, AZ; grand nephew, Danny Carpenter and William Carpenter, Chicago, IL. Born in Des Moines, IA, attended East Side High School, she came here 28 years ago from Chicago, she served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and the Korean War, following WWI, she worked with the War Crime Commission, in German, later, was employed at VA Hospital, in Chicago, IL, as Secretary to the Chief of Staff, after retirement she worked PT at Bayfront and Palms of Pasadena Hospitals, in St. Petersburg. Cremation at E. James Reese Funeral Home and Crematory, Seminal, FL.
