The Schaumburg Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously recommended that the Village Board grant a special-use permit to allow a theme restaurant to operate virtual-reality games.

The permit would allow the 23,646-square-foot Mars 2112 restaurant in Woodfield Mall to install such games, for use by restaurant patrons, in two game rooms.

“There will be no noise from the games into the restaurant,” Paul Pearson, general manager of Mars 2112, said at last week’s meeting.

The Village Board in October denied a request by the space-travel theme restaurant for a permit to install the games because the devices did not conform to an existing ordinance.

In January, village trustees amended the ordinance regulating entertainment and amusement devices.

In other action, the Zoning Board recommended that the Village Board approve a special-use permit to allow a 20-by-30-foot dance floor in the restaurant’s main dining area on Thursday nights.

Both recommendations will be presented to the Village Board on Feb. 27.
