Fred Kautsky, 79, of Westmont and formerly a longtime resident of Cicero, died Sunday, Feb. 18, in Chateau Village, a retirement home in Willowbrook. Born in Chicago, Mr. Kautsky served in the Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Hoggatt Bay, an escort carrier. Assigned to the Pacific Theater, he was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Kautsky spent 25 years as a Cicero police officer, said his son, Fred. He retired in 1973. “He moved from Cicero after he retired and spent 20 years in Alabama,” his son said. “He loved to fish and even had his own lake in Alabama. He also liked to garden.” Other survivors include a daughter, Karen Knapp; two grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Kautsky. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Toon Funeral Home, 109 N. Cass Ave., Westmont, followed by services at 11 a.m. in Westmont Alliance Church, 117 N. Cass Ave., Westmont.
