Missing Marlin: For the second year in a row, Florida pitcher A.J. Burnett will spend much of spring training sidelined by an injury. Burnett has a broken right foot that will prevent him from pitching for up to a month. The right-hander might be able to join the rotation sometime in April, but it’s unlikely he’ll be ready for the opener.
Still, the setback was not as severe as a year ago, when Burnett fell during a fielding drill, hurt his right thumb and missed the first 31/2 months of his rookie season, when he wound up 3-7 with a 4.70 earned-run average in 13 starts.
