The objective of Rick Pearson’s “State GOP sees need to moderate” (Page 1, Feb. 20) is obvious–attribute the relatively strong Al Gore vote in DuPage County to GOP positions on social issues. But the real reason that Democrats are flooding into DuPage is to take advantage of the prosperity and safety created by the GOP and its positions on social issues. As a contributing member of the GOP since 1976, a Wheaton homeowner since 1978, a GOP precinct committeeman since 1999 and someone who spent many hours manning the Milton Township GOP Campaign Headquarters, I believe the GOP needs to do a better job explaining to the newly arrived Democrats why we have all this prosperity and safety in DuPage County.
