Edna Julia Dunn Harp, the loving wife of Willie Harp Jr. and mother of six children, Jerone, Murial, Yvonne, Wendell, Reynaud and Cynthia was called home to God on February 21, 2001. Born July 11, 1924, in Biloxi, MS, she was the third of seven brothers nad sisters. After her marriage to Willie Harp on April 24, 1945, they eventually settled in Chicago, IL, where she worked as a teacher and head tacher in the Chicago public school system for 30 years, while her husband worked as a Chicago policeman. Edna accepted Christ early in life and was dedicated to helping family, friends, and those she knew who needed someone to speak for them. Blessed with an extraordinary intellect, forcefulness of personality and dedication to things that were right – Edna was a beacon of light, help and inspiration to those whose path she crossed. Intellectually gifted, she started Dillard University at the age of 16 and later received Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many – Edna Harp was acknowledged and respected for her untiring commitment to education, hard work and resolve to stand up for God given rights and responsibilities. All of Edna and Willie Harp’s children attended and excelled as college graduates, as have many of her 15 grandchildren of college age. An avid gardener and always willing to assist others, Edna responded well to God’s command that “to whom much is given, much is required”. Edna Harp shared, inspired, pushed, shoved, loved and cared for all. We love her and thank God that He allowed her to help guide us through life’s journey. Services to be held Tuesday, February 27, at God’s House of All Nations, 8409 Stony Island Ave., Chicago, IL. Family Visitation 3:30 p.m. Memorial Service 4 p.m. The Harp Family.
