Birth date: Jan. 27, 1951.

Birthplace: Elmhurst.

Occupation: Actor.

Resume: Theater: “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “A Christmas Carol.” Movies: “The Tuskegee Airmen,” “The Net.” Television: “Early Edition,” “Profiler.”

Current home: Wheaton.

Marital status: Married to Susan Tyra for 19 years.

Children: Jeff, 18, and Ryan, 17.

Working on: I play Dan Peggotty in “David Copperfield” at Steppenwolf and I’ll be on Broadway in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” in April.

The last good movie I saw: “Cast Away.”

I stay home to watch: “Law & Order,” “The Practice” and anything PBS.

The books I’ve been reading: “Cold Mountain” by Charles Frazier and “David Copperfield” by Charles Dickens.

Favorite meal: Smoked salmon or a bag of potato chips.

Favorite performers: Cary Grant, Gene Hackman and Robert Duvall.

I’d give anything to meet: My personal goals.

I’m better than anyone else when it comes to: Frittering away time.

The one thing I can’t stand: People who write checks in the express lane of the grocery store.

If I could change one thing about myself: I’d be more patient.

If I could do it over: I wouldn’t, because I don’t think I’d know any more than I did.

My fantasy is: I’ve always wanted to set foot on another planet. I think it would tell me something about the universe and about life.

Most irrational act: Building a two-story, two-car garage by myself. I don’t know what I was thinking; it was so much work.

My most humbling experience: I was doing “Love Letters” at Steppenwolf with Kate Nelligan and I offered to drive her home, assuming she knew the way. Well, she didn’t and I’ve always lived in the suburbs, and I didn’t, and I got us hopelessly lost.

The three words that best describe me: A regular guy.
