Joyce C. Weil, 75, of Chicago, a retired computer programmer, died in a one-car accident in Chicago Wednesday, Feb. 21. Born in Newark, N.J., Mrs. Weil spent most of her life working at the University of Chicago doing meteorological research and computer programming. She graduated from U. of C. in 1947 with a degree in meteorology and worked at two research laboratories before leaving in 1957 to raise children. After returning to the university in the early 1960s, Mrs. Weil learned computer programming and worked on a variety of projects until her retirement in 1994. Since then, she has traveled extensively and volunteered her time as a docent at the Oriental Institute of Chicago. Only a few days before her death, she had returned from a trip to Egypt. “Travel was her passion,” said her son Jason Weil. Other survivors include a son, Gordon; a sister, Marilyn Nottenburg; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at the Tews Funeral Home, 18230 S. Dixie Highway, Homewood. Services will follow at 3 p.m.
