Walter Sowa, 78, of Ludlow, PA, died Friday evening, February 23, 2001 at Warren General Hospital. He was born in Deer Lick, Warren County, on February 2, 1923, son of the late Joseph and Teckla Czysz Sowa. He was the first Eagle Scout in Ludlow in 1940. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, having attained the rank of Corporal. Mr. Sowa schooled, then worked in Chicago as a master English and Math teacher at Lake Shore High School near the north side of Chicago for over 20 years. He belonged to the American Federation of Teachers, AFL-CIO; as well as other professional organizations related to teaching. He is survived by a sister, Mary Ulrich of Albuquerque, N.M.; his dog, Charlie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death, in addition to his parents; by three brothers, John, Stanley and Bernal Sowa, and three sisters, Anne Kloss, Louise Speroni and Sophie Strand. There will be no visitation, and a memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to any S.P.C.A.
